"On April 5, 2014, became the deputy of Pavel Gubarev, the so-called “people’s governor” of the Donetsk region.

On April 7, 2014, when the DNR was proclaimed, he became the co-chairman of the provisional government of the DNR.

On May 15, 2014, became the chairman of the DNR Parliament (at that time, the highest position in the DNR).

On July 18, 2014, Pushylin resigned. After his resignation, he was the coordinator and co-chairman of the “People's Front of Novorossiya”.

On November 3, 2014, following the results of the general elections in the DNR, he became a member of the People’s Council of the DNR as representative of the “Donetsk Republic” socio-political movement.

On November 9, 2014, by the Edict of the Head of the DNR, Aleksandr Zakharchenko, Pushylin was also appointed to the position of Permanent Plenipotentiary Representative of the Republic at the negotiations of the tripartite contact group in Minsk.

On November 14, 2014, he was elected deputy chairman of the People’s Council.

On September 4, 2015, during an extraordinary session of the People’s Council of the DNR, it was decided to appoint Pushylin as acting chairman of the representative body of the republic.

On September 11, 2015, he was elected chairman of the People's Council of the DNR, with 76 votes for his election.

On September 7, 2018, he was appointed by the People's Council of the DNR to perform temporarily the duties of the head of the DNR until the election of the Head of the Republic in the national elections scheduled for November 11, 2018.

In December 2021, Pushylin became a member of the UNITED RUSSIA party.

On February 21, 2022, he signed a treaty of friendship, cooperation, and mutual assistance with Russia.

On September 23, 2023, he was officially recognized the head of the Donetsk People’s Republic by edict of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.

Since October 4, 2023, he has been the head of the Donetsk People’s Republic."
